Membership in NRMA has many benefits that come from being able to network with loss prevention experts at some of the most well known and successful retailers in the country; but what makes us so effective is our retail theft database. Proprietary information from NRMA members is collected and updated on a continual basis. Most importantly, there are a variety of fully-automated search options.
While traditional background screening can identify information of record, many incidents are never reported and therefore will not show up on a traditional background check. NRMA’s retail theft database enhances the background screening process by allowing you access to information that will alert you to past incidents of dishonesty in the workplace.
On an NRMA monthly “hit” report, almost all of the employees identified had no public criminal record. These high-risk employees would have passed through the screening process had they not been screened by NRMA.

The NRMA Retail Theft Database – What are the facts?
Around 89% of all NRMA hits are internal theft cases. This means the individuals who comprised the 89% had stolen merchandise from a store before AND that they had stolen from a store which employed them.
NRMA reports around $1.3 million dollars of theft incident information to their members a year with the lowest amount being around $4.00 and the highest amount being around $77,300 in merchandise theft committed by an employee from a single location.
Because NRMA is a product of GIS, an industry leader in background screening services, you have an enhanced level of legal protection and security in the information you receive through NRMA. NRMA adheres to the highest legal standards and meets or exceeds all government regulations for personal information.
Who is in the network?
NRMA is the fastest growing contributory theft database in existence. We have grown from only 8 member retailers in 2004 to over 60 by 2008. Our member testimonials bring additional insight to the quality of members and the value of membership to them.
NRMA does not allow members to “fish from the pond without stocking it”. Every member makes timely contributions of theft incident data occurring at their locations to keep expanding the scope of other members’ searches. Our rapid growth is directly related to the commitment our member retailers have made to the NRMA cause.
